Interdisciplinary, international specialization Module, comprising 10 ECTS credits. Taught in English. Teaching subject: 5 ECTS

Brief description of the Module

Becoming a professional teacher means being capable of resolving specific educational issues and being active in education development in collaboration with others. This means that the teacher must be innovative in his/her daily practice. Furthermore, the teacher must encourage the pupils to become innovative citizens, which requires the teacher not only to be innovative in his/her teaching, but also to understand the didactics of innovation and to guide innovative learning processes.

The Module takes its starting point in the following questions:

  • What is innovation in teaching and in a welfare perspective?
  • How and why should pupils develop innovative competence?
  • How can innovative competence be measured?

Academic foundation of the Module

The Module is based upon:

  • Research-based knowledge and theory relating to creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Knowledge of problem-based learning, creative learning processes and didactics of innovation
  • Knowledge of approaches and methods in the development and evaluation of innovative and entrepreneurial competences

Module competence areas

The aims of the Module are innovation competence and competence in didactics of innovation. The Module is based on relevant competence areas from students’ teaching subjects and from Education Studies.

Module competence goals

Students are able to plan, implement, evaluate and develop teaching with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship at primary school level, and justify their choices.

In addition to the knowledge and proficiency goals below, relevant goals from students’ teaching subjects are included.

Evaluation of the Module

The students develop an innovative solution for and/or with an educational agent.

The students must test a program in didactics of innovation. The students are responsible for contacting the partner institution.

All of the above must be documented by writing an individual blog (or other online production), which must include an annotated list of relevant sources.

Furthermore, the student must organise a 6-hour ’open lab’ conference for knowledge sharing for a specially invited group of participants, where solutions, test results and knowledge are presented and discussed.

Criteria for completion of the Module

Student blogs are individually assessed (pass or fail) in relation to the student’s:

  • theorybased reflection on his/her own innovation and program in didactics of innovation as well as participation in an open lab conference
  • fulfilment of knowledge and proficiency goals for the Module

The Module is approved for the following subjects

The Module is approved for Education studies and for the teaching subjects that the Module draws upon in terms of competence areas and competence, knowledge and proficiency goals.

Academic prerequisites for the Module

There are no specific requirements, but it is recommended that the student has completed at least 2 Modules of the teaching subject that this Module draws upon in terms of competence goals.
