A short description

Which kinds of learning and aesthetic opportunities do we find when combining a traditional approach to the teaching of crafts with the use of digital tools?

In this module, we work within a framework of aesthetic and innovative processes and experiment with different settings using analogue and digital technologies.

As a starting point, students cooperate with local stakeholders and design items for use in real life. During the module, students work in exemplarily fashion with analogue materials and digital technologies and analyze their work using a literacy approach in order to understand the learning opportunities in the given settings.

Scientific foundation

This module relies partly on theories about analogue and digital technologies and partly on different literacy concepts, including visual literacy as described in the tradition of Systemic Functional Linguistics and in the works of ENVIL (European Network of Visual Literacy)

How to pass

Students must participate actively in study groups.

Students must complete an innovative project with local stakeholders

Students must document their work process and final product.

Students must submit a written assignment (of approximately five pages) with reflections on the learning potentials of the methods used.

Students must attend 80% of lessons

Students will receive a mark based on a 7-point scale or an A-F scale

Preconditions for taking this module

Knowledge about and interest in educational planning, craftsmanship, visualizing, technology and didactics. Interest is as important as knowledge, which means that the module can be relevant for students with different backgrounds.
